Dr. Karabelas is Business and Scientific Advisor of BioMedPartners AG.

Currently, Dr. Karabelas serves as Chairman of Polyphor AG and Care Capital LLC, a life sciences venture firm, with USD 500 million under management.

Dr. Karabelas was CEO of Novartis Pharmaceuticals and head of all healthcare businesses and a member of the Executive Committee. Further, he founded the Novartis BioVenture Fund.

Prior to that, he held a number of senior executive positions at SmithKline Beecham. Dr. Karabelas was a founder of CytoTherapeutics and Vanda Pharmaceuticals.

He is former chairman of Human Genome Sciences, Vanda Pharmaceuticals, Renovo, NitroMed and SkyePharma.

Dr. Karabelas holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacokinetics from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and a Bachelor of Sciences in Biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire.
